Starting from first principles.
Alexandru Zorlescu is an architect and the founder of Zorlescu Architecture. His practice is driven by a persistent curiosity about how things work — from space and structure to energy, materials, building systems and the way architecture is constructed.
After graduating in architecture in Romania, he worked at Foster + Partners before pursuing an independent professional path.
Space, structure and performance.
His approach is deeply technical while remaining fundamentally architectural. Alongside the form and quality of a space, he is interested in its structural logic: how forces move through beams, columns, cables and foundations, how details are resolved and how a project moves from drawing to built reality.
The same curiosity extends to building physics and environmental systems: heat transfer, the building envelope, heat pumps, solar systems, energy storage and the interaction between them. As a certified Passive House designer, he considers building performance an integral part of architecture from the outset.
An idea, followed through.
His experience is closely connected to construction itself. Materials, joints, fabrication and precision matter at every scale, from the overall structure to the smallest detail. Design continues beyond the drawings: a project must make sense in the way it is assembled, built and experienced.
M22, his own house in Corbeanca, brings this relationship into focus. Designed in full by Alexandru, with close involvement in its construction, it connects architectural intention with material and execution.
Understanding what works, and why it works, defines his approach. Zorlescu Architecture approaches contemporary architecture as a continuous relationship between concept, structure, performance, detail and construction.
